Twinkies, Cupcakes and the end of Hostess...

No, you did not miss an announcement in the paper. Hostess has not announced that they are closing... but based on their current marketing practices, I am guessing that it is just a matter of time. The other day I was in the Grocery Store looking for other food and I passed the aisle displaying the "hostess" cupcakes and the like. I saw the price on these items and did a double or triple take. They were priced well in excess of $1.25 per package... or significantly more than the "Fresh" bakery produced product sold in the store bakery. (And the "10 pack" was priced at 2.50 or less than half the price of the 2 packs...). How can they possibly survive at this insane price? Well the short answer is that they cannot. And the long answer is that it appears that yet another American Company has gotten greedy and decided to set prices at an artificially high level to try and obtain excess profits. (The $2.50 ten pack says that the 2 pack price is to high by at least 33%).
