Words of the Prophet of Doom

This Blog has nothing to do with God, Religion, the End of Time, or any similar garbage. (Well at least not directly, I may well take shots at some irrational folks like creationists.)This Blog is simply my Random Ravings About This and That and those little things that annoy.

David Michaels

My long time friend and fellow Gilbert and Sullivan performer, David Michaels, died on Thursday, April 6, 2006 of a Heart Attack. I am opening up this blog page for anyone that would like to talk about David. I will be sending this on to his sister, Robin, so she can appreciate all of the lives that David touched.

This Comment was sent to me by Sam Silvers. He asked me to post it.

David Michaels was one of the finest performers that I have ever met.
He was able to bring King Hildebrand, Sir Marmaduke, Colonel Calverly,
Sergeant Meryll and the other G&S "Heavy Baritones" to vivid life. He
had a sparkle and excitement in his eye that made those characters
really thrilling. Now, it is not easy to make King Hildebrand
thrilling, but David could do it. It is true, as David C. wrote on
SavoyNet, that David M. "would perform any role with a nearly unmatched
sense of joy."

I am so glad that I was able to chat with him at the first Connecticut
G&S singalong, the Toronto T2K singout and the most recent Florida G&S
singalongs, and I exchanged many lively and interesting e-mails with him
over the years.

David was a gentle man and an intelligent man. His WAS a poetic soul.

Perhaps, at Jonathan's singalong in Providence on April 29, where we
will sing Pirates, among other things, we can dedicate our paean to
Poetry to David Michaels.

David was a very talented performer and a very sweet man. I'm sorry I only got to meet him a few times, but was delighted to work with him again last year in Orlando. My condolences to his family and friends - he will be missed by the G&S community.
