To the jerk on the Airplane...
The other day the POD flew to Washington, DC on a very crowded plane. As POD is a frequent flyer, POD boarded early and got his seat. One of POD's pet peeves are people that take large carry-on bags on the airplane. POD never carries a large bag with him on the plane, and always checks.
Well, soon after POD boards, a person comes down the aisle and tries to put a bag in the overhead compartment. Things are not going well. This person is rather short, the bag is rather large (and appears to be very heavy) and it appears that she is going to drop it on POD's head. So the POD stands up and offers to help. Wow. And this person immediately blew up at POD, suggesting that I was suggesting that she was incompetent to put a bag in the overhead compartment. I immediately backed down (and moved for a while to another row so I did not get hit by the heavy bag). She stood in the aisle struggling with the bag. Other people offered to help. She snapped at them. The Flight Attendent suggested that she might not want to block the aisle. She basically told him that she would be done when she would be done. Finally she got the bag in the overhead bin.
It was quite clear, based on further comments, that she was offended becuase she thought that I was helping her because she was a woman. Truth be told, nothing is further from the truth. POD is often very helpful in stowing bags on airplanes and helps anyone who might need help. Its a matter of self defense as falling bags As it happens, POD offered to help because she was "short" and incapable of lifting up her bag.
So if you happen to read this blog, I was trying to help you because you are short, not because you are a woman. And next time, pay attention to the size and weight of your bag. Steamer trunks should be checked.
